Łukasz Ważny, M.Sc. (ORCID ID: 0009-0002-1490-2219) graduated with a master’s degree in biology from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland in 2021. During his studies, he was involved in virology research projects devoted to epigenetic and epitranscriptomic mechanisms of HIV-1 latency. He gained practical experience in virology during research internships at Université Libre de Bruxelles (2021) and Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (2022). He is currently studying for his medical degree at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland, and concurrently pursuing his PhD at the Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology in Gliwice, conducting research under the project entitled “Immunomodulatory properties of small extracellular vesicles released by the tumor into plasma in patients with HPV-dependent and -independent head and neck cancers” (Supervisor: Prof. Monika Pietrowska, PhD, DSc). His research interests focus on the role of extracellular vesicles in the course of oncoviral infections and their impact on the processes of carcinogenesis, with particular emphasis on cancers associated with HPV infection. During the course of his PhD, he is successively developing his skills in mass spectrometry techniques.
